  17. <p>     Subversive journalist Hunter S. Thompson has found a new
  18. outlet for his aggression--painting. Like a kid with his first
  19. set of crayons, Thompson set up posters of famous subjects in
  20. his Colorado garage, shot bullets through some of them, blew up
  21. bombs behind others, then splashed paint over what was left. Now
  22. here's the real craziness: the works will be exhibited in the
  23. Aspen Art Gallery this month, and one, The Director, a portrait
  24. of J. Edgar Hoover, is expected to sell for at least $20,000.
  25. "The pieces are very disturbing and provoking," says gallery
  26. owner Mary Grasso. "People will wonder why he's doing this." No
  27. they won't.
