- <p> Subversive journalist Hunter S. Thompson has found a new
- outlet for his aggression--painting. Like a kid with his first
- set of crayons, Thompson set up posters of famous subjects in
- his Colorado garage, shot bullets through some of them, blew up
- bombs behind others, then splashed paint over what was left. Now
- here's the real craziness: the works will be exhibited in the
- Aspen Art Gallery this month, and one, The Director, a portrait
- of J. Edgar Hoover, is expected to sell for at least $20,000.
- "The pieces are very disturbing and provoking," says gallery
- owner Mary Grasso. "People will wonder why he's doing this." No
- they won't.
